Esp

Where to begin to tell the madness that was this my second Ironman. I have done many hard races, but so far nothing like the truth, extreme temperatures, a poster of incredible trial tits (of the best in the world, such as: Frodeno, Kienle, Lange ...). I would also have to add the bad luck that I had one to a week before the IM, in an easy bike training, I go to the ground just half an hour after finishing it, with a bump that I cannot see because of the shadow that the trees made me and I was just drinking water, so with one hand I eat the jump and fly, breaking the controls and levers of the di2 (the next day was a holiday and I had to repair the bike before Wednesday afternoon that I had to leave it to the carrier so that it will take me to Frankfurt) and also scratching / bumping me all over the left side of my arm, torso and leg. This added unnecessary extra stress, since it was possible to solve the repair of the bike at the last minute and be able to deliver it with just enough (going to the runs to one side and the other). With aches and pains, they continued doing the training sessions of the previous week. Already on Friday in Frankfurt a little more stress would start, since I did not see the schedule of the mandatory technical talk for the elite, therefore I did not go and with my partner we had to go from one place to the other trying to find a solution (I do not speak English, but luckily Eli did) so she saved my baked potatoes by talking to people from the organization. By the time this problem was solved, we had been walking about 15 km, it was like 4 in the afternoon and there were still a thousand things to do (wait for your bike to arrive, fix some things on mine and change tires, cameras, bottle cages, etc. ) Friday's conclusion was that we walked from 9 am to 9 pm approx a total of 25 kms (an incredible madness). On Saturday it was a bit quieter, but also short of time, due to the colossus of buses to take the bikes to the t1 that was on the lake 12 km from the city of Frankfurt, we ended up eating at around 4 p.m., having dinner at 21, that is, all the food together, but hey, what are the days leading up to a race without these things like that? Luckily I fell asleep quickly and managed to rest about 4 ha and a half. Already on Sunday morning tranquility, until we were a little later than planned to go to the bus that took us to the lake, sneaking between the people and companions to arrive on time (I left at 6:25, Eli Luckily I was looser for time, which she left at 6:40, all this was 5:15 when we were getting on the bus, plus a 30-minute trip, to accommodate things on the bike, to inflate the wheels that due to the terrible heat we had to deflate them so they would not burst). Summing everything up in itself, I finished warming up for 5 or 8 minutes nothing more and for the starting area. Now fully on what the race was: A good swimming, although one of the ones that have hit me the most in my life, the first 200 meters and a scratch on my face, afterwards the blows to the elbow injured by the accident last Sunday were constant (it is the law that if you have any injuries, they hit you there fixed) blows to the head, etc. But hey, it's part of the folklore of this sport, taking that out and the scratches that I didn't know that the cheating suit was doing (since neoprene was prohibited due to the high temperatures) that made me want to get out of the water at 1500 meters, the rest Well, good rhythm, without leaving my life, swimming at 1'26 "the 100mts, leaving the water 15th, 5 or 6 minutes from the first (Frodeno) was not bad at all, but the best was coming. The 185 kms of bike, which at first went well, but after 3 am, the temperatures were already above 30 degrees. The idea was discussed with 脕lvaro (my coach) from the beginning and it was very clear, regular on the bike, because the heat was going to take a lot of its toll in the marathon later, that I will forget the rhythms planned to do and that it was due to sensations , said and done, an incredibly regulated bike (with the plus that the potentiometer stopped working and I only had to measure my average speed and heart rate), I say incredibly because those who know me know that I am very stubborn and this is regular It costs me a lot, more when you leave the first and on the bike it passes you to God and Holy Mary, but I there firmly in my business and with a cool head (with another bonus due to the accident that I could not practically fit in, because of the pain That this produced me in the left elbow with any jump or irregularity in the asphalt, summarizing these 185 kms with an average of 33.9 km / h, being the partial 356, that is, that of God fell on the bike. To this I have to add the minute of penalty I was given to go over the dismount line, because with a previous bump I skipped the rear drum a bit without realizing it and when I wanted to pass my leg behind, I felt that I was hooked, so I reposition myself to raise my leg more , but by the time I was able to do this, it had already passed me a bit long. Already in the marathon (my best sector) I had to do my career and overcome what I lost on the bike, just as in the 185 kms I had to control myself a lot, because it was very easy to explode with the 37 degrees that I was already doing, going out at a calm pace but constant, hydrating well at each refreshment station and throwing ice, Coca cola, iso, Redbull "whatever he will grab" on top to lower body temperature. I was forging another of my historical comebacks, the rhythm itself was a bit altered by the large amount of people who stopped at each refreshment station to feed and hydrate (totally normal with the heat that was falling). The proof that it was a very mental and controlled marathon is that the last 7 kms I was able to tighten the pace, going from 4'35 "to 4'15 / 20" per km, all of which allowed me to stay with the 16th best part of the run. and a 22nd final position with a time of 9 hours 44 minutes 9 seconds. The truth is that I cannot complain for being my second Ironman and with the conditions that existed, it is clear that there is a lot to improve and I will work hard on it, to do much better in the next challenge #ironmanbarcelona in October of this year to close the season in December, repeating Ironman Mar del Plata. Closing the chronicle, congratulate my girlfriend Eli for being a finisher in her Ironman distance debut with such a tough race and thank her for all the patience and support she gave me and gives me every day, as well as all my people who follow me , always encourages and supports my parents, family, coach "脕lvaro Rance" for the great guide he always gives me, the brands that give me a hand "crown sport nutrition" and my club Rayo Team for the support they always have, see you in the next chronicle, greetings and thanks
